Before the Whistles

About Us

The story starts before the match.

Before the Whistles is an independent football travel media project — documenting the cities, people and culture that surround the game.

What it is

A media project, not a travel agency

Before the Whistles produces documentary-style video and editorial stories about football travel. Each episode follows a destination, a football story and the people around it — from the first coffee of the morning to the walk to the stadium.

We are not a club channel, a groundhopping directory or a holiday brochure. We are interested in what football does to a place — and what a place does to football.

Why it exists

Because the match is the shortest part

Anyone who has travelled for football knows the truth: the ninety minutes are the smallest part of the trip. The story is the overnight train, the bar that opens early for away fans, the old man who has held the same season ticket for fifty years.

Before the Whistles exists to give those hours the attention they deserve — with the craft of a documentary and the honesty of a travel diary.

The Philosophy

“People first. City second. Culture always. The stadium is where the story ends - not where it begins.”

Independent

We choose the cities, the clubs and the stories. Editorial independence is the whole point — nobody buys our verdict.

Documentary

Real streets, real supporters, real matchdays. We film what happens, not what a script says should happen.

European

Season One crosses the continent — fifteen destinations, fifteen completely different ways of living the same game.
